Prof. Peter Brandstaetter was born on the 31.12. 1917 in Spittal/Drau. After graduating school, he learned the profession of a painter. During this time he participated in special art-classes in Villach, his teacher was the academic artist Prof.Leopold Resch. He developed his own way of painting and expression during these years. From 1938 till 1947 he had to serve in the Army. Two years of this time he spent as a prisoner of war. Since 1947 when he came home he worked as a free artist.
He was painting a variety of subjects (portraits, landscapes, religious themes etc.)
MaterialHe used all kind of materials to develop his pictures. He painted in oil, pastel colures, water paint, and pencil-charcoal. He painted around 200 frescos and sgraffiti’s in churches, public buildings and private homes. He also drew layouts for mosaics and glass windows. However, his speciality has always been his painting in water-colours, reflecting light, life and nature.
Since 1943 he has been a member of the Art Association of Carinthia (Austria)
Since1947 he has been a member of Professional Art Association of Austria.
In 1979 he received the title of Professor from the Republic of Austria.
